My Mother's house was in really bad shape after my stepfather passed away (he was a hoarder and the house developed a rodent problem). We were really impressed with how sensitive and respectful they were to our wants and needs. They did a THOROUGH job, in good time and worked with OUR schedule. Whenever we asked a question, it was answered. We never felt like we were being judged or looked down upon. I really don't think there are enough words to convey how great they are to work with.

I cannot begin to express my gratitude for their service. Backstory: My mother has been dealing with a cancer and heart failure diagnosis, as well as severe depression for about two years, and her home was beyond the point we could clean it between the two of us. Everything in the process of scheduling cleaning, getting information/estimates, during and post cleaning was entirely smooth and Angela and Philip are both extremely kind and understanding people. The home was utterly, extremely cluttered and filthy and they managed to clean it out entirely within barely a day and a half. It is a joy for my mom to return to and has practically given her a new lease on life. What impressed me the most was both their communication and attention to recovering valuables and usable items, they contacted me often during the cleaning to check what items should be kept or disposed of, and they managed to box up, save, and organize everything I could think of that needed to be. The cleaning and organizing went beyond what I could possibly expect and we were truly astounded by how thorough of a job they did. They have an extreme attention to detail and dedication to working with their client to understand their needs. I couldn't recommend them any higher, ultimately they vastly improved my mom's life and her living space. If you have or know someone that has a living space that needs intense care, I could not name a thing they could do better.

I don't often write reviews but Angela, Phil and their team at Bio-One need to be called out for being an amazing, responsive, caring company. A week before Christmas there was an emergency situation that I was made aware of. A situation that needed to be urgently addressed. I live in Boston and the cleanup that needed to be done was in Portland, Oregon. I called Bio-One first on a weekend. This was a hoarding and bio-hazard clean-up. Amazingly, with only 1 days notice they made time for my situation immediately. I flew in to Portland on the Monday night and they were at the location to greet me Tuesday morning. They were on-time, kept to the pricing quotes, were compassionate and thoughtful about what to dispose of and what to keep. They sent pictures and helped me through processing what was happening. I can't say enough good words about this company and the owners. Thank you.

Created a new Google account just to leave this review. 💞 I recently hired Bio-One PDX for their "PDX Hoarding" services. About a year ago, I became disabled--and then proceeded to just do nothing related to my apartment. There was trash everywhere, boxes of things I'd never opened, year-old dishes left in the sink, year-old food left in the fridge, a pet I hadn't cleaned up after--it was bad. I had so much stuff that I'd created pathways around my apartment, and when some of the lights went out, I just left them out because I couldn't replace them, myself, and couldn't ask maintenance to replace them for me. Family occasionally asked to visit from out of town, but people could not safely enter, so I visited them, instead. Friends would ask to come over, but I'd arrange for us to go out for dinner. Once I got past a certain point, I didn't know what to do to get myself out of that situation. There was too much stuff to hire cleaners, but the apartment wasn't clean enough to hire haulers. I also couldn't even hire normal cleaners, because I'd let things go for so long that there were parts of my home that were a biohazard--and I couldn't find them all to clean beforehand because they were hidden behind so much stuff. After months of telling myself I'd take care of it all, I gave up and called Bio-One PDX to take care of it for me. That was the best decision I made in a long time. They did a great job; my apartment went from basically uninhabitable to clean and spartan within a day. In the process, it was clear that, at least from a hoarding perspective, they deal with a lot of rough things: buildings left in that state for decades, buildings with needles in them, buildings with many neglected animals in them. They were really prepared for anything, and my apartment was not a problem. They were also very aware that people only call them when something bad has happened. Despite the terrible circumstances, they were somehow kind and cheerful, and they kept a really positive attitude throughout the entire day. They were also as discreet as I can imagine is possible, given the kind of work they do. It can be hard enough hiring normal cleaners without feeling like a burden, so I expected to feel really terrible about this entire process. Instead, it felt like I was just hiring someone to do a job, in the same way I'd hire an electrician or a plumber: I was not personally qualified to do the work, so instead I hired specialists, and there was nothing wrong with that. It is not a personal failure to ask for help. It took a lot to clean out my apartment: a box truck (twice!), professional-grade chemicals, equipment for deep cleaning, training and equipment for cleaning up waste, a ton of trash bags, three people cleaning for an entire day, and all the training, work, and equipment necessary to properly dispose of or donate the stuff they took away. I didn't negotiate; the price seemed entirely fair, and it was within my budget, so I paid it all the day of the job. However, they proactively offered to work with me on payments or price, which speaks to how understanding they are as people and business owners. It really takes exceptionally kind, empathetic, and hard-working people to do the kind of work they do, and I deeply appreciate they exist. For the first time in a long time, my apartment feels like a home. I've since hired "normal" cleaners to come in every other week, and I've put HEPA filters in every room. Guests have visited in the weeks since Bio-One PDX cleaned out my apartment, and unprompted, every one of them has commented on how tidy it is--not knowing how horrible a state it was in just days or weeks before. Hopefully, I'll never need to hire Bio-One PDX again. However, if I do, I won't hesitate to call them. My only regret is I didn't call them sooner.

Great work ethic from both crew members! They did an excellent job and I would recommend this service to anyone with my similar situation! Thank you so much! Now, I can open my shed and not feel like some varmint is going to scare me to death! Two thumbs up for sure!! The shed was thoroughly cleaned, disinfected and contents that were contaminated were thrown away and the remaining items were organized and put back by the workers. Glad I found your organization.

A while back I had some rats take up residence in my garage, which is giant and mostly unused other than as a storage space. I had pest control come help me eliminate the guests but their party signs remained. After diligent research on safely handling rat droppings, I suited up with my $100 of PPE and gear and went to get to work on what I thought would be an unpleasant but manageable Sunday afternoon task. Thirty minutes in, I was ugly-crying into my half-face respirator mask on the garage floor, and clicked the first result that came up on a google search for help. I am beyond grateful that I ended up with the team that came to help a few days later. They were the most incredibly combination of compassionately kind, and masterfully, efficiently competent. It was a much bigger job than I realized, and they walked me through exactly what to expect, executed the job thoroughly, and left me with a functional garage. I wept when I saw it. I clean blown away by how kind and matter-of-fact everyone was. I am so grateful for their help.

The team that came to help my Mom today was impeccable. They treated my Mom with respect and compassion, and diligently worked to help correct the issues in the home. It impressed me how quickly they worked, and how kind they were. I would recommend them to anyone who needed help with a difficult situation. They asked what her goals were and made sure that they addressed the concerns. They didn’t require direction and just did everything that needed to be done. Thank you Bio One Team!!

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    What is Hoarding?
Hoarding is a behavioral pattern characterized by the excessive acquisition of and inability to discard large quantities of objects that cover the living areas of a home and cause significant distress or impairment.

Compulsive hoarding behavior has been associated with health risks, economic burdens, and adverse effects on personal relationships. When clinically significant enough to impair functioning, hoarding can prevent typical uses of space so as to limit basic daily activities like moving through the home, eating, and sleeping. It can also put people at risk due to increased risks of injury, fire, and disease.
Why Hire Bio-One of Portland To Cleanup Your Hoarding Residence?
Bio-One of Portland prioritize concern for the well being of our customers and their families, always following our slogan, “Help First, Business Second.” Bio-One of Portland soundly reject the business-first mindset of other companies who see people and their families asking for help as vulnerable and exploit the economic opportunity. Our primary goal is to help people improve their lives and begin the process of moving forward.
What Makes Bio-One of Portland Different From Other Hoarding Cleanup Companies?
Bio-One of Portland sets itself apart from other hoarding cleanup companies in four distinct ways:

Bio-One of Portland come to give on-site estimates, never blind, inflated estimates over the phone. This allows us to give an accurate estimate and scope of work.

Bio-One of Portland do not give bait & switch quotes. Unlike other companies that lowball their estimates and then ratchet the price up as the job progresses, our experience and expertise allows us to give accurate estimates that reflect what the job will cost.

Bio-One of Portland are truly a local company, the owners and employees all call the Portland area home, too. Other companies take your call from outside our community, and then subcontract your job out to some workers who are neither hoarding specialists nor trained professionals. Many times the contracting company does not even know the subs they have hired.

Bio-One of Portland respond to a hoarding cleanup request immediately because we are locally based. We're not heading into the area, we're already here.
Does Bio-One of Portland Share Information About Or Notify Any Other Entity Regarding A Hoarding Matter?
Bio-One of Portland goes to great lengths to ensure your privacy and our discretion. For starters, we use unmarked vehicles and we don’t suit up outside whenever possible. We’re also good at gently, but firmly, shooing away nosy neighbors and we don’t answer their probing questions.

Does Bio-One of Portland Offer Any Maintenance Or Follow Up Service After The Initial Hoarding Cleanup?
Yes. Bio-One of Portland offers a regularly-scheduled maintenance program where Bio-One of Portland return to the residence or property after the initial cleanup and perform follow up services to ensure that it remains in the state it was when we completed the job.
Do I Have To Get A Maid Service After You Are Done To Clean The Property?
Yes. While the original hoarding cleanup will result in the removal of all necessary/requested items, the hoarding residence will still be in need of a thorough and detailed cleaning, due to the effects caused by the original hoarding situation. Bio-One of Portland offers a detailed cleaning program to anyone who's interested.
